Phone charging cable with backlight. How the backlight works and what’s inside

backlit charging cable

There is a cable for charging phones, tablets and other equipment on sale, which has a backlight, and it does not just shine monotonously, but can change colors and there are various modes.I got such a cable and I decided to disassemble it to find out what the manufacturers put there, whether there is a special chip there.

The light comes from the USB socket, and I began to disassemble it.After removing the plastic, I found the LED and did not see any other details.Only this LED is not ordinary, but it has a name-RGB.Inside such an LED there is a chip that controls the glow of the LED.There are LEDs with different modes on sale, they can blink and fade out smoothly, shimmer with different colors, etc.

The light from the LED goes further along the cord along a special light guide, which can break due to its fragility.I pulled out this LED and applied 3.7V power to it through a current-limiting resistor of 150 ohms of resistance.
