In old image scanners there is a voltage converter for a fluorescent lamp.This lamp highlights the image when it is being scanned.In more modern scanners, LEDs are already used for illumination.
Based on this voltage converter, you can make two interesting homemade:a plasma lighter and a stun gun, if you add a voltage multiplier
I got a board labeled Link Com and a pulse transformer LDT0292.SD1616A transistors.
What needs to be done.The transformer has an output winding, a capacitor is connected to it. Remove the capacitor and solder two wires to the two terminals of the output winding of the transformer.Power up to about 9 Volts.If there is no high-frequency spark between the two wires, bring the two wires closer together.Try to close the two terminals with a metal object, then you will see a spark.
There is no need to be afraid of this spark, since it is high-frequency and can leave a small burn on the skin.Bring paper or cotton wool to the spark and they will light up.This is how plasma lighters that are on sale work.But transistors may not work for a long time due to heating, so they need a heat sink.Be sure to put a transistor radiator.
How to turn a plasma lighter into a stun gun? To do this, you need to assemble a voltage multiplier on diodes and capacitors.Take four high-voltage capacitors with a capacity of 330 pF at a voltage of at least 1 kV.You will also need four high-voltage diodes, their names are unknown to me since I took them from a flayback transformer from an old monitor.You can see how to get them out of there in my video.Assemble the voltage multiplier as shown in the diagram
Connect the multiplier to the output winding of the converter transformer from the scanner.Supply approximately 7 Volts of power.The distance between the two contact where there will be a high-voltage discharge is about 4 mm.
It turned out to be a stun gun, but it is quite “powerful”, since it will be able to light an incandescent lamp at 220 volts and with a power of 20 watts.Therefore, we must be careful and observe safety precautions, do not touch the two terminals where the spark passes.When you turn off the device, discharge these two contact with a metal screwdriver.
